About PingStatus: WiFi & ISP Monitor
Your Wi-Fi, your router, or your ISP? PingStatus tells you which one.
Most menu bar monitors show you a latency number and leave you to guess what it means. PingStatus watches your router and your internet target at the same time, so when something goes wrong it can tell you where the problem actually is. Clean pings to the router and bad pings past it means the problem is upstream, and now you can prove it.
WHAT YOU SEE
Live latency, jitter and packet loss in your menu bar, as a number, as signal bars, or as a live sparkline of the last few minutes. Color-coded status so a glance is enough: healthy, degraded, down.
WHAT IT CATCHES THAT OTHERS MISS
- DNS failure as distinct from an unreachable host, so "the internet is down" and "your resolver is broken" stop looking identical.
- Corporate and guest Wi-Fi that blocks the macOS system resolver. PingStatus falls back to querying DNS directly and keeps monitoring instead of showing you a false outage.
- Gateway problems. Automatic router discovery that re-detects when you change networks or wake from sleep, and works alongside a VPN.
EVIDENCE YOU CAN SEND SOMEONE
A real scrolling history graph with a color-coded health strip, packet loss markers, and event markers for sleep, wake and every state change. Zoom and scrub with the trackpad. Export any time range to CSV and send it to your ISP, or open it in Numbers and find the pattern yourself.
ALERTS THAT ARE WORTH READING
Native notifications for high latency, high jitter, gateway trouble and DNS failure, with thresholds you set. Jitter presets for browsing (50ms), video calls (30ms, the ITU-T standard) and competitive gaming (15ms), or enter your own.
BUILT FOR MACOS
Universal binary for Apple Silicon and Intel. Runs in the background with minimal battery impact. Optional launch at login. Compact floating overlay that stays on top of fullscreen apps, for keeping an eye on your ping while gaming.
PRIVACY
PingStatus collects nothing. No account, no analytics, no telemetry. Your ping history stays on your Mac.
FREE, WITH A PRO UPGRADE
The core monitor is free forever. Pro unlocks the interactive history graph, the compact overlay, monitoring of up to four additional targets, signal bar and sparkline icons, and CSV export. Fourteen-day free trial, then a one-time $4.99. No subscription.
